A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent-----Douglas MacArthur

Every organization, irrespective of size, requires great leaders. Does your organization have great leaders?

Leadership is still an enigma which poses to us a lot of questions and yet does not have credible answers. How many of us understand what leadership is about? Many don’t understand this clearly but yet it is one of the foremost success factors for any project. Strong Leadership is crucial for every organization, all the more in today’s environment where market dynamics changes at the drop of a hat.

One of the main roles of a leader is to lead his team, bring out the best from each team member and then achieve the desired goal. However it is also very evident to clearly make distinctions between a manager and a leader. It is rightly said, “Managers ensure that things are done right and leaders ensure that the right things are being done”.The table below puts a clear distinction between a manager & leader.

Managers Vs Leaders

Managers have employees                                             Leaders wins followers
Managers focus on things                                             Leaders focus on people
Managers direct groups                                                  Leaders create teams
Managers communicate                                             Leaders persuade
Managers react to change                                             Leaders create change

There exists a variety of leadership styles in the working environment. Every organization, depending upon its need, follow different leadership style, each having merits and demerits attached to it. Delegative, Participative, and Autocratic are some of the many leadership styles which are widely used in today’s time. In addition to these, Situational Leadership is amongst the most popular styles that organizations follow.

A situational leadership model aids managers in their mission to address the demands of their circumstances. Depending upon the need of the hour and the amount of direction or guidance a leader is required to provide in the particular situation, this style can be put to use. There are four different situational leadership styles:

  • Directing
  • Coaching
  • Supporting
  • Delegating

The better the understanding of how leaders can foresee change and become a good leader is by developing a thorough understanding of leadership skill. The benefits of this style of leadership is that it makes a clear cut approach for effective leadership, it helps in improving commitment and motivation and it increases chances of success.

These days so many training programs have come into the market for employees to train them with the latest trends and make them their biggest asset. The element of leadership cannot be spoon fed, skills have to be developed, and a leader has to infuse skills in order to make its team work.
